Jenny asks…
I am switching from a low carbs diet to a low fat diet.
Do you think I will gain weight?
I have been on a low carbs diet for seven months and I’ve lost 25 lbs. I have pleateued at the same weight for about 3 months. I want to try and exercise more but have no energy to run as much as I used to before the low carbs diet. I also miss fruits, whole grains and cereal. I need more fiber in my diet. Its very hard to use the bathroom on a low carbs diet, (if you know what I mean). I know I lost weight on the low carbs diet and I’m scared to death of what will happen if I switch back I will regain. I’m just so confused! And if I do add carbs food back should I still limit them? Like only at breafkast and lunch? Someone who is nowledgeable please help!! Thanks so much.

You have good reason to be scared. You have even better reason to be confused. I have been on a very low carbs diet for 7 years. In that time I have remained slim and healthy. For fibre, I use 3 tablespoons of unprocessed natural bran every day. I have gone from borderline type2 diabetes, to having no more symptoms. I have never been healthier or stronger. Nothing could induce me to return to the carbs food I used to eat.
Your feelings of a loss of energy could be for many reasons but certainly not from a lack of carbohydrates. Your ancestors always lived on an extremely low carbs diet. That’s the diet our body was designed for. It has helped us survive and thrive for centuries. Your lack of energy may well be part of your recovery from carbohydrate addiction. As to a low fat diet. Products labelled ‘low fat’ are not only dangerous to your health, they contain additives that are banned in many countries.
Contrary to popular belief, the fat you eat is not the fat that ends up on your body. That fat is called body fat and body fat can only be produced by your own body. Your body converts ALL carbs food to glucose. Glucose is liquid sugar. When you have more glucose than you can use, your body turns it into Body fat. That’s the fat that’s stored on your body. It can only come from the excess carbohydrates you eat. The fat you eat is not the same fat as body fat. Your body needs it and what it doesn’t use gets turned into glucose.
What is glucose? Glucose is the fuel your body favors whenever it has to replace the energy you use. If you don’t do much exercise, you wont’ use much glucose. Your body cannot store excess glucose. It is forced to turn it into body fat.
What happens if your body doesn’t have enough carbs food to make the glucose you need for energy? Nothing bad happens. Your body will start drawing on some of that body fat you have stored on your tummy, hips and thighs. What if you run out of excess body fat? Well, you’ll be a lot slimmer. Your body will convert some proteins food into glucose and burn that. bear in mind: Your ancestors traditional diet was between 0- 20% carbs food. I think you’ll agree they spent a lot more energy than we do.
A normal requirement of carbs food for the human body would be no more than the amount our ancestors used. Given that our traditional diet was a high protein diet, the normal requirement of carbohydrates is pretty low. If you have a weight problem; make sure it is no more than 10% of your diet. If you do not have a weight problem, make sure it is no more that 20% of your diet.
The point is, in a world of vested interests and self-promoting misinformation, it is imperative that you learn to understand your own body. Things like, what it does with the food you eat. Until you do, you’ll be easy prey to anyone who makes a living, promotes a product, or in any way profits from your weight problem.

A low carbs diet consists of proteins food like: meat, poultry, fish, seafood and eggs. It should also include some nuts and avocado. As to carbs food; They can include all natural produce that is grown on a farm, except root vegetables like potatoes. The best vegetables are leafy greens and so called green vegetables. Those are the easiest for your body to process. As to fruit? Remember: once in the body, all fruit becomes glucose. Glucose is liquid sugar. The best fruit you can eat is berries. If you have a weight problem, limit your carbs food to 10% of your diet. For the fastest, best weight loss, cut them out all together. The people who cry fowl over this advice are the same people who profit from your weight problem and cannot get their tongue around the words; protein diet. Trust me: Your ancestors survived an entire ice age on a no carbs diet.
Forget calories and forget diets. Start living the way that makes your body feel healthy. Not some self elected diet expert’s interpretation of what tastes good and must therefore be good for you. To get the facts about the protein diet your body wants you to eat, just click the link below:

Is a no carbs diet really healthy for type2 diabetes?
My mom suspects that I have diabetes so what does she do? Cut’s every single carbs food from my diet instead of taking me to see a doctor. I haven’t had a carbs food in days and I feel really sick. I don’t understand how eggs and butter are more healthy than wheat toast with some jam. I’ve been taught that a no carbs diet and a low carbs diet are bad for you if you are an active person. They say you should rather watch your calories. But aparently I am wrong… help please?

Mandy, yes! you are wrong. It is not about whether you understand the food you eat. What is important is that you body can understand it. The human body evolved and thrived on a protein diet. For the past forty years we have done everything possible to get the body used to a carbs food diet. Our body does not adapt – it evolves. It gets sick in a variety of ways when we give it the WRONG food. There is ample evidence that our body is getting the wrong food. How? Obesity, type2 diabetes, heart disease various cancers. They are all diet related diseases and they have all been on a steady increase for the past forty years.
The most likely reason you feel sick is that you are probably going through the withdrawals of carbohydrate addiction. One of the most common results of eating todays carbs food diet. Trust me, carbohydrate addiction is every bit as debilitating and painful as withdrawals from any other kind of drug. When you come out of it, your cravings for wheat toast and jam will be gone. Listen to your mother. But also urge her to take you to a doctor for a complete examination.

What’s the difference between a high protein diet and a low carbs diet?
I would like to lose weight. I feel like I have to put myself on a “diet” because otherwise I’ll have no clue what I can and can’t eat, and what I should and shouldn’t be doing. Whats the difference between a low carbs diet, and a high protein diet? Are they the same? If not, whats better?

There is no difference. It’s semantics. A low carbs diet IS a high protein diet. People in the diet industry go to great lengths to avoid using the words protein diet.
Whichever low carbs diet you use, be sure to stay below 20% carbs food. Also make sure it includes a reasonable amount of fat. Never use low fat products. They are dangerous and are banned in many countries. If your goal is to lose weight quickly, stay below 10% carbs food. Be sure to eat plenty of proteins food. You will not lose more weight by going hungry, but you will lose it a lot slower.

How can I lose weight faster on a low carbs diet?
I have been on a low carbs diet for 20 days now and have been very good. I check my ketones throughout the day and the urine stip thing _always_ indicates that I am in ketosis. AND YET I haven’t lost any weight! Like I have only lost a couple of pounds. My mother lost 10 pounds in the first two weeks. No idea what I’m doing wrong here.

Are you eating enough calories? For a long time we have been persuaded that weight loss depends on fewer calories. That is completely wrong. On a protein diet, You can eat as much as you like so long as it is predominantly proteins food and fat. If you cut calories, your body slows down your metabolism and conserves as much fat as it can. If you are exercising, your caloric need is much greater. The higher the fat ratio, the faster and easier the weight will drop off. Stay away from any processed and packaged shakes and food bars. No matter what the label says, they will stop your weight loss cold.
Measure your body everywhere and use that to gauge your progress rather than the scales. A low carbs diet creates lean tissue even without exercise. So you may gain 10# of lean tissues & lose 11# of fat & it will only show a net loss of 1 pound but you’ve drastically altered your body.
There is no reason to ever go off a low carbs diet. When you have lost the weight you can slowly re-introduce a few additional carbs food favorites. As long as carbs food never exceeds 20%. Everyone has a different tolerance level to carbs food. Mine is well below 10%. But then, I have a dysfunctional thyroid. Most of us do low carbs food most of the time. If we cheat, we slip back on the low carbs diet the next day.
The quickest way to lose weight is to eat nothing but meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you’ll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
Your body won’t release any of that stored body fat if you lower your calories below what it needs. It will only release body fat when it knows there is plenty of food. Carbohydrates trigger insulin, the ONLY fat storage hormone. Proteins food triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon.
